Hummer is one of the most recognized SUV’s to ever be produced. The Hummer was originally based on the military's High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) or as commonly called, the Humvee.

The Hummer officially became available to automobile enthusiasts in a civilian model with the 1991 model year. Many car enthusiasts think of the Hummer as the ultimate off-road vehicle. Some drivers even view it as the ultimate power vehicle for trips down city streets and state highways. Most notably, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a proud owner and driver of Hummer vehicles.

In what GMC called a "bold experiment," Hummer has prepared a hydrogen-powered version of its H2 SUT (sport utility truck), the H2H. General Motors has not yet made this experimental vehicle available to the general public, but they have made a prototype copy of the vehicle available to Governor Schwarzenegger's office to "demonstrate the economic and technical viability of hydrogen," as an alternative fuel source.

The Hummer line of vehicles currently consists of the H1 (discontinued), H2, H3 and H3x. The gossip mill even suggests that General Motors is planning to make an announcement in Jan 07 about their planned H4 to be ready for purchase beginning in 2010.

While the Hummer is still a bit of a gas hog, its wide wheel base makes it one of the safest SUV's on the road today. And the fact that it is stylish and attractive, continues to contribute to its high sales numbers.
