The Audi A4 is an impressive performance vehicle, particularly when equipped with the available Quattro all-wheel-drive system, and it has a beautiful interior with excellent build quality and materials. The A4 is our favorite when it comes to the best car for the money.
A4 DTM
The A4 came with a number of engine and transmission variations. The most popular is the 2.0 Litre Turbo and a 6 speed transmission. The other options include the V6, the 30 valve, and the TDI Diesel models.

Upgrades - There are many upgrades available for the Audi A4 Quattro. The first and foremost recommendation is to upgrade the suspension to an Eibach Bilstein package. The Pro Kit and the Bilstein HD’s provide unmatched balance of handling and comfort.

Next options would include a K&N Air Filter, and a sport exhaust system. For the Turbo models, modifying the computer and adding a larger intercooler with more boost makes the A4 a powerful reliable daily driver.

Maintenance - Do not forget the A4 uses a timing belt for both the V6 and the turbo model. These must be replaced every 30-45K miles. Changing the water pump and the tensioner/idlers at the same time is critical.

The fuel injectors on the earlier models have a tendency to clog and to have an impaired spray pattern. This is due to the incompatibility with the ethanol put in our fuels in the USA. The new Bosch injectors are 100% compatible with the new fuel types.

Keep an eye on the heater core that uses the plastic tank as it tends to leak and the oil filled motor mounts that seem to allow the engine to move excessively.

And finally the one item that seems to go out more than any other item on the A4 is the electronically controlled throttle body and the air flow meter. Changing the O2 sensor when replacing the above items are recommended.
