The internal type of a BMW 320 alternator regulator is located within the alternator and in some cases is replaceable. To replace the BMW 320 regulator you must remove the power form the battery. The preferred way is to just remove the ground or negative battery cable prior to servicing the BMW 320 alternator or regulator. If the regulator is internal and is not removable, then the entire BMW 320 alternator assembly will need to be replaced.
