The internal type of a BMW 328 alternator regulator is located within the alternator and in some cases is replaceable. To replace the BMW 328 regulator you must remove the power form the battery. The preferred way is to just remove the ground or negative battery cable prior to servicing the BMW 328 alternator or regulator. If the regulator is internal and is not removable, then the entire BMW 328 alternator assembly will need to be replaced.
