Information on BMW E30 and E36 M3
The BMW M3 is a high performance version of the popular compact BMW 3-Series, produced by M-MotorSport division of BMW.
M3 motorsport models use the E30, E36, E46 and E90/2/3 3-series Chassis. The upgrades over the standard 3-Series include more powerful and responsive 2.3 Litre DOHC 4 Cylinder and the 3.0 Litre 6 Cyl Engine, a sport suspension, aerodynamics, and an interior/exterior accents with "M"/Motorsport badges
The E30 M3 is based on the 1986 model year and was equipped with a 2.3 L I4 engine. The BMW M3 is mostly known for its racing pedigree. It was campaigned by BMW as well as other racing teams including Korman Racing and AC Schnitzer competing in many forms of racing including but not limited to SCCA, DTM, Australian touring car and other series.

The E36 M3 was produced in 1992 and was the first M3 powered by a six-cylinder engine, displacing 2990 cc and developing 282 hp. The E36 is also the first M3 to be manufactured in a lightweight version for racing.
BMW M3 Maintenance and Performance upgrades - The BMW M3 is a robust and reliable vehicle that seems to take about as much abuse as you can give it. A few items to tend to on the early M3 is the cap, rotor and spark plug wires. These seem to break down after about 30k miles. We reccomend upgrading the brakes to Akebono Ceramic Pads and a set of Brembo Sport Drilled Rotors. The M3 handles very weel right out of the box, however a set of Bilstein Sports and an Eibach lowering kit will provide the handling you only get from purpose driven race cars. When the clutch fails, make sure you replace the clutch disc and pressure plate with an OE type, as the heavy duty clutches have a tendency to push the Clutch Master Cylinder right thru the firewall.
