The internal type of a Porsche 911 alternator regulator is located within the alternator and in some cases is replaceable. To replace the Porsche 911 regulator you must remove the power form the battery. The preferred way is to just remove the ground or negative battery cable prior to servicing the Porsche 911 alternator or regulator. If the regulator is internal and is not removable, then the entire Porsche 911 alternator assembly will need to be replaced.
