Volkswagen Golf GTI 4cyl and VR6 Parts and Maintenance Information

Volkswagen GolfThe VW Golf was one of the more successful Volkswagens produced over the last 20 years. The VW Golf replaced the popular Rabbit and as of 2007, the VW Rabbit was reintroduced to replace the Golf. The Golf came in a TDI Diesel model as well as the 4 cylinder single and dual cam engine, Turbo model and the ever popular VR6 engine.

The Golf is very popular among many young drivers as the car is easy to customize with thousands of popular aftermarket parts and accessories available for the Golf.

The Golf GTI came in a VR6 and a Dual cam 4 cylinder model. The 2.0 Litre Turbo 16 valve 4 cylinder engine packed a punch with over 180 HP, and revs up to 8,000 rpm. The VR6 engine provided plenty of torque and reliability. Because of the weight of the VR6, the Turbo 4cyl was faster and handled better.

Performance Upgrades - Many upgrades for the VW golf include a Cold air intake, A Bro-Speed Exhaust system, Coilover suspension kits, Sway bars, and Bilstein Struts.

The best bang for the money is adding a B&G Coilover Kit or the Bilstein Suspension system. Adding a K&N Air filter will provide an extra 6 HP for about $50.00.Golf GTI

The Brakes on the Golf are very easy to upgrade. If you have a non GTI model, you can easily install the GTI brakes that have a 30% more braking surface. Just upgrading the pads to the Ceramic or Metal Master Pads will provide up to 50% more braking efficiency.

Maintenance Items - One of the many items to fail on the Golf is the Catalytic Converter that can cost hundreds of dollars from the dealer. The other item is the Oxygen sensor that will throw an OBD II trouble code. Finally the electronically controlled throttle body that was produced by VDO fails prematurely after about 50K miles

We recommend only using OE or Bosch products when replacing worn out parts on the VW to keep the Golf in top running condition.
