Cold Air Intake Kits
Cold Air IntakeK&N Engineering first offered cold air intake systems in 1987s. The original intakes were made of molded plastic intake tubes and a conical, cotton gauze air filter. In the late 1990s quite a few aftermarket manufacturers entered the market place such as Injen, AEM, Airaid, True Flow, AFE and Volant to name a few. In addition many manufacturers imported their designs from Japan and Korea lending to the popularity of the Japan domestic market (JDM) air intakes in sport compact markets. K&N and many of the other intake companies now offer metal tube design intake systems, allowing a greater degree of performance.

The better designed cold air intakes use heat shields to isolate the air filter from the heat of the engine and exhaust, providing cooler air from the front or side of the engine bay. Carbon fiber is typically used for the piping instead of metal, reducing weight and improving aesthetics.

A Cold Air intake system relocates the air filter outside of the engine compartment to deliver the coolest air inlet temperatures possible. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horesepower and torque. But that's only part of the power equation. Tuning the inlet pipe in length and diameter to match the engine's resonance helps move more air to the cylinders and this tuning allows us to deliver the maximum power gains throughout the entire RPM range.

All Cold Air Intakes are Dyno proven and tested to produce the maximum horsepower. In most cases you will see a 10% increase in power by adding a cold air intake to your vehicle. Cold air intakes are a bit more comprehensive to install and in some cases require the disassembly of the entire front end of the car or truck. Be sure you know what is required for installation before you purchas
