Brake Pads Information

    Ceramic Low Dust Brake Pads
    Brake pads are located in the brake caliper that is attached to the front or rear wheel hub assembly. The pads apply pressure to the Brake Rotor or Disc, thus causing the vehicle to stop.

    Brake PadsBrake pads use a number of compounds including, semi-metallic compounds, non-asbestos organic compounds, carbon, and ceramics to name a few. The pads are the wearable friction elements of the front and sometimes rear braking system. When you push the brake pedal, the pads apply equal pressure to the disc brake surface to slow your car to a stop.

    When the pad lining indicator light comes on, have your brakes checked immediately. On older vehicles most brake pads come equipped with a thin metal clip that presses itself against the rotor when the pad is worn to its minimum wear and will create a very loud squealing noise while driving to let you know your brake pads need to be replaced. Make sure you order sensors when you purchase new pads.

    If you hear a grinding noise while braking, you have worn the pads down to the metal backing plate and they are metal to metal with the brake rotors. If this occurs, do not drive the car, immediately take your car or truck to a mechanic, or you must replace the brakes, as the metal backing plate has come into contact with the rotors damaging them beyond repair. If you continue to drive the car you will have catastrophic brake failure as the brake caliper pistons will reach their limit of travel, releasing the hydraulic brake fluid from the system.
