Diesel Glow Plugs
The glow plug heats the diesel pre chamber up to a temperature so that the dieselfuel when injected will ignite. If the glow plug or glow plugs are bad, the diesel powered engine may refuse or at a minimum is very hard to start.

You will typically notice if one glow plug is bad because once the engine starts when it is cold it will sound like it is not running on all cylinders. Then when the engine gets to operating temps, then all cylinders seem to fire.

The only way to test the glow plugs short of removing them is to use an Ohm meter and check the resistance of the glow plug. A bad glow plug will have no resistance at all – and open circuit.
