Air Flow Meter Information

    Fuel Injection Air Flow Meter
    The fuel injection air flow meter measures the amount of air entering the engine and adjusts the air fuel ratio by sending an electronic signal to the vehicles computer. The Air Flow Meter has a small electrode wire that is in the middle of the air stream that is very sensitive and can easily be contaminated by cleaners and oil.

    Most sensors fail due to electrode contamination and will cause the car to hesitate under acceleration or in some case not start at all. The best way to determine a bad Air Flow Meter is to check the fault codes at the vehicles computer. On OBDII vehicles you will need to purchase a hand held scanner to get the fault codes.

    Be very careful when installing a newAir Flow Meter as it is very easy to ruin the unit just by handling it with your bare hands. Never clean with chemicals like Brake Kleen or solvents. If your Air Flow Meter keeps failing the issue is most likely to much oil on a performance style oil based air filter, or to much blow by form the engine.
