Exhaust Manifolds
The Exhaust Manifold is located on the cylinder head and distributes the exhaust form the cylinder head to the downpipe and out the exhaust. The exhaust manifold sees temperatures exceeding 1600 degrees and can because of heating and cooling crack or break apart. The exhaust manifold is tuned to the engine, so it is not a good idea to put an aftermarket or a header on the vehicle unless you are taking the car or truck off-road.
The manifold is designed by the factory to tune the exhaust pulse to the exhaust providing the maximum horsepower, torque and drivability. Many times consumer will put on a header and notice a decrease in power and fuel mileage. Headers are designed for higher RPM range and air flow that will reduce the low end torque of a stock engine.
There really is no shortcut when needing to replace the exhaust manifold. Unfortunately the best case in most scenarios is to replace the manifold with a new genuine or OEM manifold so you can keep the car or truck as drivable and fuel efficient as possible.
