Gas Cap and Fuel Tank Cap
The gas cap on newer cars and trucks is part of the emission control system and must be completely tight for the car to run properly. The fuel systems use a vacuum recirculation system that keeps the gas fumes from going into the air. If you do not tighten the gas cap all the way the check engine light will come on the dash. If this happens, simply tighten the gas cap, and wait a few days. The light should eventually go out. If the check light does not go out, there may be more wrong than a loose gas cap.
Take the car to a dealer so they can check the engine code. With todays gas prices we recommend investing in a locking gas cap. Getting a locking gas cap instead of a regular snap type gas cap will save you lots of dollars in stolen gas. Drivewire has all the replacement gas caps including OE, Genuine, aftermarket and locking. Save up to 70% over other online stores and local parts stores by purchasing your locking gas cap from us!
