The original pad set used a removable electrical wear sensor on one pad, which Nissan eliminated in mid-'94 in favor of a mechanical sensor attached to two of the pads. Of the brands we offer, only the NPN set still has the one pad drilled to accept the electrical sensor. The other brands (PBR, Akebono, Sumitomo) are equipped with the later-style mechanical sensors instead. If updating to the later-style pads, please remove or tie back the sensor wiring to prevent interference with other parts on the car.

NPN Brake Pads – You never want to use cheap brake pads. NPN pads are made of very high quality materials that are asbestos free and perform with very little noise. The NPN pads are made of an organic material that will perform to all OEM requirements.

Unless the brake pad sensor that plugs into the backing plate has been subjected to excessive wear, it is normally reusable. Pad sets ISD486, D1250D, and D1250M do not include a fresh sensor. Pad sets ACT486 and 139-56-03 includes a replacement sensor, heat-shrink tubing, and instructions for adapting the new sensor to the existing sensor wiring.

PBR Brake Pads – PBR Pads come in 4 different friction models; PBR Deluxe, PBR Ultra Metal Master, PBR XBG Ceramic and PBR 4Wheel Drive. The Deluxe pad is made of organic material and is made for Stock OE replacement. The Metal master pas is made for more extreme driving and has a higher threshold for heat. The Ceramic pad will provide the most heat dissipation and friction out of any of the PBR pads. The PBR brake pad line is guaranteed against excessive brake rotor wear and brake noise.

Sumitomo Brake Pads - When replacing the brake pads on your car, you will want Sumitomo Brake Pads that meet or exceed OE manufacturer specifications. When doing a brake job on your car or truck, you will want to replace the brake pads with high quality pads that resist in fade and do not squeal under braking conditions. Sumitomo Brake Pads are produced to provide a high resistance to fade and the highest level of friction without harming the brake rotors. The Ferris material used on OE style pads will cause a bit more dust than an aftermarket metallic or ceramic pad, however they are more resistant to noise.

Although the OE parts info indicates otherwise, we have had a few reports of mid-'94 and later models that were still equipped the early-style pads (with electrical wear sensor). If such is the case for your vehicle, please refer to the note attached to earlier pad set #44060-66U85 for specific info on pad availability.
