for sprockets w/ Shallow-profile round teeth The Mitsuboshi belt is identical in material and dimensions to the OE Service belt, but the OE Service version has timing marks that may help those with little or no experience in changing the timing belt on this application. When using the Mitsuboshi belt, care should be taken to insure that the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets are properly aligned before installing the belt. . Nissan changed the tooth design for timing belts on VG30E engines from one with a shallow tooth depth to one with a deeper profile. The change occurred during the 7/93 production month. Though our catalog is accurate per information provided by Nissan, some customers have reported receiving the wrong belt for vehicles on either side of the 7/93 production month. If possible, we recommend that the type of belt on the engine be confirmed before ordering.

Gates Timing Belts - Gates is the only manufacturer approved by virtually every major OEM to provide timing belts for new engines. This means that Gates is able to cover the aftermarket with timing belts that are OE-equivalent or better in service life and performance. Gates also has the largest selection of timing component kits for the aftermarket, with 75 percent of its kits being specified for import vehicles. Each kit for 1974 - 2004 model years contains all the parts needed for a timing belt system replacement: one or more timing belts, idlers and/or tensioners, and detailed instructions.
Timing belt-equipped car engines can be classified as either free-running or interference, depending on what occurs if piston/valve synchronization is lost due to a failed timing belt. As illustrated below, an interference engine usually sustains damage if synchronization is lost. This could result in very expensive engine repairs.
Notes: Timing belt failure on interference engines can result in serious engine damage. See manufacturer's maintenance manual for specific information. Belts of similar dimensions and tooth profiles are not interchangeable due to varying construction features. Misapplication of belts voids manufacturer's warranty.
